The BestFarms FarmReady Project

           Managing Climate Risk Workshops

View List of proposed dates and venues for workshops

The BestFarms Environmental Management System (EMS)has achieved a FarmReady Industry Grant that has allowed the team to formulate information workshops based on planning for and managing future climatic risks, which are to be held around the Southwest and South Coast over the next two years.

The start of 2010 has indicated that, at the very least, the predictions

of increasingly unpredictable weather are becoming the reality. The

FarmReady Industry Grants were developed to provide funding for

eligible groups to undertake projects that help their members adapt

to climate change. The BestFarms EMS meets this criteria by

providing landholders, with any size or type of property or business,

assistance in identifying environmental problems, planning how and

when to fix those problems, and continual monitoring of the progress

 of these actions.

With funding through the FarmReady Initiative, the objective of the planned workshops is to equip landholders with a systematic method to identify and plan for the variability of our future climate.

Workshop participants will learn how to:

  •  manage the risks associated with climate variability
  • set achievable targets specific to their property or business and
  • the importance of monitoring their progress over time.

In addition, the workshops provide a useful forum for networking and talking through ideas with other landholders and stakeholders in the local area. The process is completely voluntary and tailored to meet the particular characteristics of each property.
